MoveDetroit is a historic, city-wide effort dedicated to growing Detroit’s population by building shared prosperity, thriving communities, and even brighter futures for all Detroiters–current and future.

Through data‑backed, community‑led programs, policies, and storytelling, we’ll support current residents choosing to stay, invite former residents to return home, and welcome others to join us.

In early April 2026, Mayor Mary Sheffield and Dan Gilbert took the stage at Wayne State University to launch MoveDetroit, a powerful new coalition dedicated to fueling the city’s growth.

This initiative prioritizes both retention and attraction, headlined by the "Make Detroit Home" program which provides $15,000 stipends for homeownership and entrepreneurship and a Neighborhood Ambassador Program seeking 100 local voices to represent the spirit of our community. It’s a bold commitment to the people who make Detroit what it is today and those who will build its future.
