SEASON 1
Untold is artist profile series created by Ariel Ellis, it seeks to unearth Detroit’s unseen artists.
The first season profiles – Chef - Sarah Fennel, Tattooist - Lady L, Painter - Sabrina Nelson, Painter - Smile & Sneaker Designer - El Cappy among others.
Episode 1:
Phillip Simpson, The Smile Brand
Although his early art was detailed and complex, Phil came to realize that beauty and happiness can easily be found in the simple things. He learned that happiness could be spread with something a simple as a smile. In this first episode of UNTOLD, we highlight not only Phil but also his work and creative process.
Episode 2:
El Cappy
Eric paints shoes. But his artistic influence is rooted in the free expression of skateboard culture. He doesn’t live within any artistic constraint; he’ll put paint on whatever he can get his hands on. In this episode, we illustrate Eric’s free-flowing artistic philosophy — one that has attracted clients like The Detroit Lions and Kanye West.
Episode 3:
Sarah Fennel, Broma Bakery
With the use of natural light, Sarah turns her pastries into elegant minimalist art. She’s since garnered an , she shows other food photographers how craft their own story.
Episode 4:
Joe Hertler & The Rainbow Seekers
Through the Rainbow Seekers’ carefree and joyous music they’re built a family of buoyant fans. They started as college students singing in coffee shops. They have now advanced to traveling the country and spreading happy vibes through their music.
Episode 5:
Lady L Tattoos
Lori’s work is more than art. With skin as her canvas, her ink has become therapy for many of her clients. Although the world of tattooing has not always been welcoming to women, Lorri fearlessly walked through doors of misogyny and to the heart of healing through tattoo therapy. In this male dominated field, her compassionate approach to tattooing has given her an advantage over many of her masculine counterparts.
